Why designer pages matter

Most font directories treat designers as throwaway metadata — a small italic credit at the bottom of a font card, never linked, never aggregated. TypeCraft takes a different position. Every type designer credited in the open-source catalog gets their own page, with their full body of work surfaced together and an editorial profile that explains where their work sits in the broader landscape of contemporary type design. The result is an index that lets you trace the through-lines in a designer's catalog, find sibling families that share an underlying voice, and see which independent foundries and academic studios have been most prolific in releasing work into the open-source library.

The list above includes everyone from Google (the in-house team, credited on hundreds of catalog releases) and TypeTogether (the independent studio behind a substantial slice of the contemporary text-serif catalog) down to single-typeface contributors who released one careful design into the public domain. Each entry on the list rewards a click — even the single-font designers tend to have backstories worth knowing about.

If you would rather browse the catalog by typographic family — serif, sans-serif, display, handwriting, monospace — try the categories index. If you want to filter by the writing systems a typeface supports, the writing systems index sorts the catalog by the scripts each family covers. And if you are choosing a typeface for a specific job, the use-cases hub filters by intent rather than by family.
