The rules of the road for using this site.
Use of the directory
TypeCraft is provided free of charge for the personal and professional use of designers, developers, students, researchers, and anybody else interested in open-source typography. You are welcome to browse the directory, link to individual font pages, save or print pages for offline reference, and quote brief passages of our written descriptions in your own work with attribution. There is no account requirement, no usage limit, and no paywall.
Use of the typefaces
The typefaces listed in the directory are not produced by TypeCraft. They are the work of independent type designers, foundries, and academic researchers, and they are distributed under the open-source licenses described on our licensing page. Your right to use any specific typeface is governed by the license that ships with that typeface — TypeCraft is a directory, not a licensing intermediary. Read the license that ships with the font for the authoritative terms.
No warranty
We make a good-faith effort to keep the directory accurate, complete, and up to date, but the data is provided “as is” and without warranty. Font metadata can change upstream — designers issue revisions, license files get updated, the catalog grows and contracts — and we cannot guarantee that any given page reflects the current state of the upstream source at the moment you read it. If you spot something out of date, please let us know via the contact page.
External links
The directory links extensively to external resources, primarily the official Google Fonts catalog and the public google/fonts repository on GitHub. We do not control the content of those external sites and we are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or terms of use. Following a link to an external site means leaving TypeCraft and entering an environment governed by that other site’s policies.
Acceptable use
Two things we ask: do not attempt to scrape the entire directory in a way that would meaningfully degrade the service for other visitors (the underlying data is public and we are happy to point you at the upstream source instead), and do not republish our written font descriptions verbatim and at scale on a competing directory. Linking to us, quoting briefly with attribution, and using the directory for normal design work are all explicitly fine.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time as the project evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page; trivial corrections will not be flagged. The site is small enough that we cannot operate a notification system for terms changes — please re-read this page occasionally if the topic matters to you.
